OLE O. TROOIEN, PIONEER RESIDENT, BURIED APRIL 7
Funeral services for Ole O. Trooien, 83, pioneer resident of the Hendricks
community, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at the Singsaas Lutheran
church with Rev. A. H. Holm officiating.
Mrs. John Trooien was the organist, and burial was in Singsaas cemetery with
the following serving as pallbearers: Oscar Trooien Jr., Donald Trooien, Roger
Trooien, David Trooien, and James and Donald Kattke, all grandsons of the
deceased.
Hymns sung at the service were "Beyond the Sunset", by Mrs. Roger Trooien of
Marshall, and "Den Store Hvide Flok", by Rev. A. Sellevold of Slayton, who also
brought a message of comfort.
Mr. Trooien died April 4 at the Hendricks hospital.
He was born Aug. 31, 1876, in Brookings county, son of Ole P. and Guri Trooien,
who immigrated to this country from Norway and homesteaded in Brookings county
in 1873.
Mr. Trooien lived on the family homestead until 1946, when he retired from
farming and moved to Hendricks. He lived in Hendricks until the death of Mrs.
Trooien (he was united in marriage to Karen Bogen in a ceremony May 18. 1901)
in 1955, after which he lived with his son, Norman, until 1958, when he made
his home at the retirement center in Hendricks. He suffered a heart attack
March 25 and died April 4.
He was a member of Singsaas Lutheran church and had a major part in building
the congregation. He took an active interest in civic affairs and was a member
of the Hendricks school board many years.
Survivors include the following children: Oscar Trooien, Wichita, Kan.; Mrs.
Julius (Clara) Kattke and Mrs. Arnold (Olivia) Michel, Sioux Falls, and Norman
and Gilbert Trooien of Hendricks. He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Camilla, who died in 1926 at the age of 14 years.
Relatives and friends came to attend the funeral from Wichita, Kan.; Sioux
Falls, Big Stone City, Trent, Brookings, White, Baltic, Watertown, S.D.; Eagle
Grove, Iowa; and St. Paul, Marshall, Minneapolis, Clinton, Slayton, Glenwood,
and Starbuck, Minn.
