I'm still around, looking for GLIESSMANN data. I was reading through
something my great aunt Hermine wrote and I saw, for the first time, I
swear, the name Lulu Graeling. I've found the Lulu GLIESSMANN you and I were
wondering about who is listed on the Du Page IL page. She was the first
wife of my great uncle Henry Otto Alfred GLIESSMANN (aka Henry). One small
puzzle solved.
I have, however, another one. Do you know who Frieda, Ky and Art
GLIESSMANN were? I heard from someone who lived across the street
from this family (the father was named William), on Grant St in Hinsdale.
The person who told me about them said the mother spoke very broken English.
I'm sure I've heard of Frieda but the other names don't ring a bell.
Any help from your recollections?
One other bit of news is that I've put my database online at Rootsweb's
World Connect. If you want to look at it, the database is called howesfam.
There isn't much about the German part of my family, but there is some there.
I also found out how our part of the family found out the name of Sophie's
partner Von Hahn. Apparently my great-aunt went with her mother to visit her
grmo Sophie (BUSCH) who was very ill. Sophie my grgrmo told them how sorry
she was that she had not given her son his right name. She said that she and
young Von Hahn were very much in love, and that he wanted to marry her, but
she thought she was not good enough to marry into that family. Louise died
soon after that according to gr aunt Hermine (abt 1900). In Hermine's
writing is the name Heinrich Von Hahn, Captain in German Army. Take it for
what it's worth. I've never been able to find this Capt Von Hahn.
Hope you are well and do drop a line if you know anything about my newest puzzle.
